The Healthy Counties Database allows you to search for model policies, programs, and initiatives that counties nationwide have enacted to promote wellness and help prevent childhood obesity. No need to reinvent the wheel! Find out what your peers in local government have done to enable and encourage nutritious diets, physical activity, and healthy built and social environments.

Healthy Eating and Activity for Children

The Family Fitness: Child Care Healthy Eating and Activity project promoted the balancing of healthy eating and physical activity among food stamp eligible parents and children. The project engaged families in child care sites in Contra Costa, Shasta and LA Counties.

Healthy Eating and Childhood Overweight Prevention Grants

The Center provided technical assistance to 8 collaborative community nutrition projects across the state of California to improve the food and physical activity environment for low-income families.

Healthy Kids Challenge

Healthy Kids Challenge (HKC) is a nonprofit, dedicated to helping schools, programs, and communities with solutions to support kids and families with making healthy eating and physical activity choices. With evidence-based assistance and resources, HKC’s impact is two-fold:

KaBOOM!

A national nonprofit organization that specializes in linking communities, businesses and organizations together to build needed, safe and accessible playgrounds. The web site offers resources for those interesting in helping a community develop a play space, including a Getting Started Kit, The KaBOOM! Playground Manual, and more.

Kaiser's Educational Theatre Programs

Founded over 20 years ago, Kaiser Permanente’s Educational Theatre Programs (ETP) brings live theatrical programs to schools and communities to inspire children, teens, and adults to make informed decisions about their health and to build stronger, healthier neighborhoods.

KidsWalk-to-School

CDC's KidsWalk-to-School is a community-based program that aims to increase opportunities for daily physical activity by encouraging children to walk to and from school in groups accompanied by adults.

LEANWorks!

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta have a new website, LEANWorks! [where LEAN stands for "Leading Employees to Activity and Nutrition"], designed to help businesses address obesity. CDC LEANWorks! was developed in direct response to organizations asking CDC for help in addressing the obesity epidemic.

National Osteoporosis Foundation

Established in 1984, the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) is the nation’s leading voluntary health organization solely dedicated to osteoporosis and bone health.

National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA)

A national nonprofit organization devoted to advancing park, recreation and conservation efforts that enhance the quality of life for all Americans. NRPA encourages recreation initiatives for youth in high-risk environments, the promotion of healthy lifestyles, and conservation of natural and cultural resources.
