Council on Size & Weight Discrimination

A not-for-profit group that works to change people’s attitudes about body size, acting as consumer advocates for fat people in areas of medical treatment, job discrimination, and media images. Links to many more related resources.

Creating Safe Places for Play: jointuse.org

By showcasing successes as well as the problem, Jointuse.org provides the tools and resources advocates need to launch successful joint use agreements, allowing for shared use of public spaces like schools with community members once schools are closed.

Dairy Council of California

Dairy Council of California is a nonprofit organization that offers low and no cost nutrition education materials to teachers and health care providers. Dairy Council provides nutrition programs for all grade levels and nutrition education brochures for health care providers, as well as interactive tools, informative articles, and downloadable handouts.

Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) website provides tools for consumers to use to achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle. The site also serves as a gateway to information on obesity and weight loss from other government agencies, such as the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

GirlsHealth.gov

This is the site of a national public education campaign sponsored by the U.S. Department of the Health and Human Services to help encourage and motivate 9- to 14-year-old girls to make the most of their lives. Includes information for girls and grown-ups, as well as research highlights that relate to girls’ health and well-being.

Healthy Weight Network

Recognizing that weight is a complex condition of increasing concern throughout the world, the Healthy Weight Network is committed to bringing together scientific information from many sources; reporting controversial issues in a clear, objective manner; and leading an ongoing search for truth and understanding.

Kids Café Program

Kids Café programs provide free meals and snacks to low-income children through a variety of community locations where children already congregate—such as Boys and Girls Clubs, churches, or public schools.

Kids Gettin' Fit

Kids Gettin' Fit is a 6-week group weight management program at Children's Hospital & Research Center Oakland (CHORI) for children 6 - 12 years old. The program is 6 consecutive classes offered on Tuesday afternoons for two hours from 4 - 6 PM. Each child attending must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Kidshape

KidShape Foundation is a non-profit organization that builds healthy families through KidShape, TeenShape, KinderShape, and The KidShape Challenge programs. All KidShape programs are family-based.
