Promoting healthy lifestyles for children & families

Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC)

The Center for Weight and Health is leading the quantitative evaluation component of Healthy Eating, Active Communities (HEAC), which assesses the impact of the initiative on health, behaviors, attitudes and knowledge. This California Endowment initiative includes increasing opportunities for physical activity and healthy eating for children and families, particularly in low-income and rural communities, and developing state policy changes that will reduce the risk factors for diabetes and obesity. Six community collaboratives in Chula Vista, Santa Ana, Baldwin Park, South Central Los Angeles, Oakland, and South Shasta County were chosen to implement this initiative.
